Sublimation printed socks

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Sublimation printed socks is a method of making socks. Different from traditional knitted pattern socks, the pattern of Sublimation socks is printed on paper first, and then the pattern is formed on the sock yarn material through Dye-sublimation.

Technique[edit]

Use a printer (common inkjet printer, but with special sublimation characteristic dyes) to print the pattern on high-release paper, and then the pattern paper is closely attached to the sock, applying high temperature (about 200 degrees Celsius) and high pressure. In high temperature environment, the dye will sublimate to gaseous state. Because high pressure is applied to the pattern paper and socks, the gaseous particles of the dye will adhere to the polyester yarn of the socks. Unlike ordinary printing, it is not printed directly on socks. The dye is absorbed by the sock's yarn and does not form a layer, so it will not affect the breathability and feel of the sock.

Advantages[edit]

  • Can produce socks of any color pattern, the color reproduction is great.
  • Compared with offset printing, the pattern is not easy to fall off, and it will not form a layer, which does not affect ventilation and comfort.
  • The simple production process uses only white socks as a canvas.
  • Printing technology can quickly copy socks.
  • Sublimation technology does not have a liquid state, produces less sewage, and is more environmentally friendly.

Disadvantages[edit]

  • Only polyester fiber materials socks can be printed, high cotton content socks cannot be used for printing. Cotton has Moisture absorption, which will cause the diffusion of sublimation pigments and eventually the pattern becomes blurred.
  • The dye cannot penetrate the entire sock, so when the sock is worn on the foot, the pattern will be pulled up and the white sock will appear.
  • A white line inevitably appears at the front and back junction of the socks.
  • Only white socks can be used to make sublimation socks, black will cover all colors.
  • High temperature will affect the elasticity of socks.
