Subrata Kumar Das, a critic, essayist, editor, translator, TV anchor and organizer has 27 books to his credit. The Executive Director of Bengali Literary Resource Centre (BLRC) [2], a Toronto-based literary organisation, Subrata is a member of the Writers' Union of Canada and Literary Translators' Association of Canada. His latest book on Canadian literature has been acclaimed by the Bengali literature-lovers living in Canada and Bangladesh.[1] He is the initiator of Bangladeshi Novels [3], the first website on Bengali literature in 2003. He joined and led a team of eleven Bengali writers in International Festival of Authors 2020. .[2] He played a vital role in organising a big reunion at Korokdi, an ancient village of Faridpur on January 30, 2010 which was attended by more than five thousand people.[3]
Early Life and Education
Subrata Kumar Das was born at Kamarkhali in Faridpur District, Bangladesh in 1964. He is the fifth child among eight of his parents Geeta Rani Das and Late Baidyanath Das. Subrata attended Kamarkhali Primary School and Kamarkhali High School and did his SSC in 1980. Passing the HSC from Meherpur Govt College in 1982, Subrata graduated with honors and completed his masters in English Literature from University of Rajshahi.
Career
Since January 1990, Subrata Kumar Das taught English language and literature at tertiary and college levels for more than twenty years. Earlier he was Associate Professor at Western College, and Cambrian College, Dhaka, Adjunct Faculty at Darul Ihsan University and lecturer at Birshrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Rifles College, Dhaka, Cantonment Public School and College, Savar, Kamarkhali Munshi Abdur Rouf Degree College, Faridpur. He volunteered for Uddipon Vidyaniketon, Kamarkhali, Faridpur, as the Principal as well. Before leaving for Canada, Subrata had served as a Senior Editor at BRAC.
