Suchana Seth

Suchana Seth (born 1984) is an Indian scientist and entrepreneur who serves as the CEO of The Mindful AI Lab, a Bangalore-based AI-startup.[1] On January 8th, 2024, she was arrested by the Bengaluru Police Commissionerate for killing her 4-year-old son.[2][3] At the time, she and her ex-husband Venkat Raman were involved in legal proceedings that concerned their divorce and their son's custody. Life and Career[edit]

Suchana Seth was born in Ariadaha, West Bengal[6] in 1984, and was raised by her maternal uncle Parichay Bose, who remembered her as a "cheerful" child. Seth attended school in Chennai and later returned to West Bengal to study physics at Bhawanipur Education Society College, where she graduated with a BSc. She also completed an MSc at the University of Calcutta. After her studies, she moved to Seth received fellowships from Harvard University's Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society and the Mozilla Foundation. She was also a former fellow at the Raman Research Institute in Bangalore. In 2020, she established an AI-startup called 'The Mindful AI Lab', in continuation with her work in the AI-ethics field.[7][8][9]

In 2010, she married Venkat Raman, and their son, Chinmoy, was born in 2019. By 2022, Raman and Seth had divorced, their relationship having deteriorated, and Seth accused her former husband of domestic violence. The two were involved in a ongoing custody battle; Seth's family said that she had been suffering from depression after her divorce.[10]

Murder of Son[edit]

On January 4th, 2024, Seth took her 4-year-old son to Goa during a court hearing regarding Raman's visiting rights.[11] On January 6th, Seth left Goa in a cab (heading for Bangalore), when hotel staff found a blood-stained towel in her room. They called the Bangalore police, who caught her in a traffic jam.[12] The police went to the hotel and found cough syrup, allegedly used by Seth to sedate him before she smothered him.[13] Seth allegedly attempted suicide. During her 16-hour cab ride, her driver also noticed her behavior and reported her to the police.[14][15] [16]

On January 15th, 2024, a Goa court extended Seth's custody by five days, saying that the investigation was ongoing.[17]
