Dr. Suhas Joshi is currently the Director of IIT, Indore.[1][2] Dr. Joshi's research focuses on enhancing the efficiency and quality of multi-scale machining operations using physics-driven models. He has approximately 6,745 citations and holds an h-index of 45.[3]

Academic career[edit]

Before taking on the role of Director at IIT Indore in January 2022, Dr. Joshi held the title of Rahul Bajaj Chair Professor at IIT Bombay from 2014 to 2022. Additionally, he had roles as the Dean of Alumni and Corporate Relations (2018–22) and Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department (2014–17). After earning his Ph.D. from IIT Bombay in 1997, Dr. Joshi collaborated with the Engineering Research Centre at Tata Motors in Pune, later joining the IIT Bombay faculty in 1999.[6][7][8]

In 2002, while conducting post-doctoral research, Dr. Joshi was affiliated as a Research Affiliate at Georgia Tech, USA, with support from the BOYSCAST Fellowship of the Indian Government.[9] He also spent the 2005–06 academic year as a Visiting Faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA.[10][11]

From 2009 to 2014, Dr. Joshi played a pivotal role in the formation of the 'National Centre for Aerospace Innovation and Research (NCAIR)' at IIT Bombay, serving as its inaugural Principal Investigator. This center was a joint venture predominantly backed by the Indian Government and The Boeing Company.[5][12]
