Summy-Birchard Company was a music publisher in the United States.
History[edit]
The Clayton F. Summy Company was founded in Chicago in 1888. It took over the Boston publisher of educational music C.C. Birchard & Co. in 1957 and became Summy-Birchard Company. Music pedagogist C. C. Birchard (1866 - 1946) founded that company in 1901.[1] The firm acquired Boston's A. P. Schmidt Company in 1960.[2] In 1969 it acquired McLaughlin & Reilly, a Boston publisher of Catholic music founded in 1903.[1]
It relocated from Evanston, Illinois to Princeton, New Jersey and became Birchtree Music Group. In 1988 it was acquired by Warner-Chappell.[3]
Its publishings include books for piano teachers and choral directors.[4]
