Sun Haven is a 2023 farm life sim video game developed and published by Pixel Sprout Studios.[2]. It was fully released on March 11, 2023 for PC after a year and nine months of early access.

Gameplay[edit]

Players control a character that has been on a train. After the character leaves the train, they enter Sun Haven, a town with a small community, and have some work to do including starting where to place the house which can be moved later.[3] This game contains dragons and bosses which can be defeated by the player. There are also three different settlements: Sun Haven, Nel'Vari and Withergate. The former is unlocked at the start while the rest requires players to go through the story and completing quests.

Unlike many other farm sim games, Sun Haven does not feature a stamina system.[4] It does however, feature a mana system which is used for various things including to spell magic. [5]

Development[edit]

It started as a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign on September 2020. After that, the game entered early access on June 25, 2021. After about three years of development, the game was fully released on March 11, 2023, for PC.[6] A Nintendo Switch port is still in development as of February 2024 with no set release date. [7]

Reception[edit]

Sun Haven is often compared to Stardew Valley and is considered one of the best farm sim games of 2023, alongside Coral Island, Fae Farm and My Time at Sandrock.[8]

Reviews[edit]

Sun Haven has largely received positive reviews online. The Gamer has said, "Sun Haven is an intricate and fun experience",[6] while Video Games on Sports Illustrated said that it is "a beautiful game".[9] GameLuster saying it 'is an amazing experience that farming sim lovers are sure to enjoy'.[10]. while The Punished Backlog says that it 'balances the simplicity and relaxing nature of traditional farming sims'.[11] Metaphors and Moonlight thinks that the video game is 'so cute and relaxing!' [12]
