Sun Princess is a Sphere-class cruise ship operated by Princess Cruises, a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation & plc, and is the third ship to sail for the cruise line under the name. At the time of her delivery in 2024, she was the largest ship ever built in Italy, the largest ship built for Princess Cruises, and the first ship built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Sun Princess is the first Sphere-class ship to be built, with her sister ship, Star Princess, scheduled for launch in 2025.[4][3]
History
The ship’s maiden voyage, a ten-day Mediterranean cruise from Rome, took place on 28 February 2024.[5] Sun Princess was christened in Barcelona, Spain, on 23 April 2024 by British actress Hannah Waddingham.[2]
Specifications
The 21-deck, 177,882 GT vessel measures 345.5 metres (1,134 ft) in length with a beam of 42.5 metres (139 ft) and a depth of 12.1 metres (40 ft).[1] Sun Princess has 2,157 cabins,[4] and she can carry up to 4,300 passengers and 1,150 crew members.[4][5]
