Suparna Lahiri Barua[edit]
Suparna Lahiri Barua is a writer and freelance journalist who has written extensively on socio-political issues in both Assamese and Bengali.[1] Her books have been published from Kolkata, Dhaka, and Guwahati, primarily focusing on women’s studies and issues related to the northeastern region of India.[2][3][4][5] Her books are part of the recommended readings at many universities and are available in multiple libraries.[6][7][8] A few of her books have also been translated into other languages.[9] Originally from Jharkhand, she has been a resident of Guwahati since 1997.
Suparna has contributed regularly to prominent national and regional dailies, such as Anandabazar Patrika,[10] Asomiya Pratidin,[11] Amar Asom,[12] Dainik Jugasankha,[13] Dainik Asam, Saptahik Bartaman, and Sananda among others. She has also worked as a special reporter in South Bihar for Sangbad Pratidin and served as a senior sub-editor for Sakalbela in Guwahati.
She has interviewed many notable personalities; a few prominent ones include Arundhati Roy, Taslima Nasrin, Nabaneeta Dev Sen, Mamoni Raisom Goswami, Yogendra Yadav,[14] Paranjoy Guha Thakurta,[15] and Selina Hossain. Her active engagement in the media extends to frequent participation in television talk shows and being invited to address social issues at esteemed institutions and events.[16][17][18][19][20][21][22] Additionally, she engages in social activism[23][24][25][26] and keeps her followers updated about her latest works on Facebook.[27]

Her achievements have been recognized with awards such as the Monika Baruah Memorial Journalism Award in 2012, special felicitations at the Torsa Sahitya Smarak Sanman in 2019, and the Karbi Anglong District Mahila Samiti’s Sonali Jayanti in the same year.
