Suparno Sarkar
Suparno Sarkar (born 7 October 1984) is an Indian Bengali author, voice-over artist, illustrator, and storyteller. He is known for his debut fairytale novel Ajit O Kusum: Banglar Harano Rupkatha and for mythological deconstruction of the Bengali epic “Manasamangal Kavya” - titled Manasabijay. His writings combine folklore, Bengal’s medieval narrative traditions, and contemporary evidence-backed reinterpretations of myth, particularly drawing from ancient medical sciences, and overlooked history. In Sarkar’s own words, “I started writing to remind Bengalis of their own greatness, and to let readers time travel and glimpse the Bengal that was once the crown jewel of the east”. His writings frequently reference the complex and layered alliance of the legendary Bengali tradesman Chand Saudagar, and the rural demi-goddess Manasa, and their several close aides. While Sarkar’s published works are not chronological, they are interwoven and all lend to his popular “Rakshasha” universe, as fans like to call it.
Apart from writing, he has lent his voice to more than 50 audio stories on various YouTube channels and audiobook platforms.
Early Life and Education
Sarkar was born in Dumdum, Kolkata. He pursued a B.A. (Hons.) in English Literature from Raja Peary Mohan College under the University of Calcutta, followed by an M.A. in English Literature from Rabindra Bharati University. He later completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication from Jadavpur University and earned a Diploma in Spanish from Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture.

Writing
Sarkar’s debut novel, Ajit O Kusum: Banglar Harano Rupkatha, is a Bengali fairytale inspired by Bengal’s lost oral storytelling traditions. The book was published by Nautilus Publication, Dhaka, and is commercially available through major South Asian book retailers. The ISBN listed by Rokomari is 978-9849859291.
His second major work, Manasabijay, published by Patrapath Prakashani in India, is a deconstruction of the medieval Manasamangal Kavya, examining themes of destiny, divinity, and struggle for power. The hardcover edition carries ISBN 978-81-977358-5-1, as listed by Boichitro.
His third book “Rakkhoshera Ajo Ache?” published by Utkarsha is a continuation of the Rakshasha universe and take readers deeper into the story of his enigmatic fictional character – Jalandhar Mudgal. The hardcover edition bears the ISBN number 978-984-99597-8-6
He is also known for long-form Bengali reinterpretations of epics, Vetal-Panchabingshati-style storytelling, and mythological fiction.
Illustration
Sarkar is also an accomplished illustrator. He illustrated Khushir Hawa (1431), a Pujabarshiki (festival edition magazine) focused on philanthropic work for underprivileged children, and also created all artwork for his own novel Ajit O Kusum.
Voice Acting
Sarkar has worked as a professional voice-over artist, completing more than 50 voice projects for various Indian YouTube storytelling channels and lending his voice to multiple audio stories on the Bangladeshi audiobook platform Puthika Storyteller.
