Super Average was an animated series being developed by Edd Gould and Thomas Ridgewell.[1] Tom initially came up with idea for the series in 2008, but it did not start proper development until 2009.[2] The project remained in active development until Edd Gould's passing in March 2012. In the years since, the idea has been heavily modified and shelved on-and-off. As of now, the project is on indefinite hiatus. The series features the voices of Cody Taylor (Firefox), Kath Soucie (Ocean Bunny)
History
Thomas Ridgewell initially came up with the idea for Super Average in 2008, shortly before the release of the first asdfmovie.[2] Upon pitching the idea to Edd Gould, he seemed interested and the two decided that they would continue to develop the idea further when Tom graduated and moved to London. The plan was that Tom was going to move in with Edd and they would hire a new animator to work on Eddsworld while they focused on Super Average. Tom chose Edd to be the show's animator due to the great creative dynamic they shared.
In 2009, Thomas Ridgewell worked together with Tom Bown to write a screenplay for the first episode.[2] On May 11, 2010, Edd put out a casting call for voice actors on his Newgrounds.[1] The project was put on hold for the first time in April 2011 when Edd's cancer returned so he could focus on Eddsworld and his recovery. However, Edd sketched out a 6 page proof-of-concept comic in November 2011 once Tom finally moved to London. This comic was based off of Tom's original storyboard for the show's opening from 2008.
In early 2012, Tom brought on artist Katey Harding to clean-up and finish the comic. The hope was that she could breathe new life into the project. However, shortly after she started, Edd passed away. Katey finished the initial comic shortly thereafter, but the project was put on hold again due to Tom's deteriorating mental health throughout 2012 and 2013. Super Average remained in an indefinite hiatus in the years after, and Tom eventually outgrew the original screenplay from 2009. He has commissioned several pieces of concept art from various artists alongside writing a new treatment with Eddie Bowley. Very little from this new iteration of Super Average has been made available, but Tom has stated on multiple occasions that he still hopes to produce the show one day.
On November 10, 2024, Tom stated he will one day share all of Edd's contributions to Super Average if he "stops George R. R. Martin-ing it."[3]

Villains
- Red Leader - Thomas Ridgewell stated that he and Edd had planned for the Red Leader to appear as the main villain in Super Average. Though his identity wouldn't be directly stated, it "wouldn’t have taken a rocket scientist to figure out"[4] with the implication being that Red Leader is what Tord turned into after leaving. Their end goal was to fuse Super Average with Eddsworld. With consideration of criticisms and hindsight from Eddsworld: Legacy, Tom decided to scrap the character of Red Leader. He has stated his reasons as not only distancing himself from Eddsworld, but also relieving the character of Tord from his control.
