Super Sema
Super Sema is an animated webseries created by Lupita Nyong'o. It premiered on YouTube for YouTube Originals on March 8, 2021. The series has garnered acclaim for being Africa's first kid superhero animated series.
Plot
Sema lives in Dunia with her twin brother, MB, and her grandfather, Babu. She likes to "technovate" to solve any problems. Her sworn adversary is a humanoid robot named Tobor, who, with the help of his minions, the Bongalalas, is constantly scheming to destroy Dunia and all of humanity.
Characters
Heroes
- Sema: the titular protagonist of the series. Described as "a maker, creator, and super technovator", Sema is a highly intelligent girl who uses mechanics to overcome obstacles. She is voiced by Lupita Nyong'o.
- MB: Sema's twin brother, who aids her in her adventures. He is voiced by Seth Prewitt.
- Babu: the twins' grandfather. He is voiced by Elsaphan Njora.
- Moya: Sema's pet goat.
Villains
- Tobor: the main villain of the series. Despite his humanoid appearance, Tobor is a robot. Believing humanity to be a waste, he is constantly coming up with ways to destroy Dunia, but is always thwarted by Sema. His catchphrase is, "This time, you win, Sema, but one day, A.I. will triumph forever!" Sema always replies with, "Never!" He is voiced by Elsaphan Njora.
- Bongalalas: Tobor's minions, who are constantly messing things up. They are voiced by Claudia Lloyd.
