"Super Turnt Up" is a song by the American recording artist Ciara, recorded for her fifth studio album Ciara (2013). The song was co-written and co-produced by Ciara and her long time collaborator Jasper Cameron. It is an R&B song that speaks about how "her man gets her in the mood".

"Super Turnt Up" was met with general acclaim being called "magnificent" and praised for the seductive "cooing". Ciara's rapping technique was also praised being compared to that of rapper Nicki Minaj. Other reviews noted similarities to the R&B artists Brandy, Monica, Kandi and Aaliyah.

Composition[edit]

“I’m rapping on that song. It’s me with a little twist. So as opposed to saying it’s another name, an alter ego, it’s like no, it’s featuring me. I can be very silly—I like to have a lot of fun.

—Ciara speaking on featuring on her own song.[1]

"Super Turnt Up" is the seventh song on the album. It was co-produced and written by Ciara and her long time collaborator Jasper Cameron who has previously worked with her on songs including "Promise" (2006), "I Don't Remember" (2009) and "Sorry" (2012). "Super Turnt Up" is credited as featuring herself because the song has Ciara rapping.[1]

"Super Turnt Up" contains "90s R&B", "soft tones" and "gleaming harp" compared to that of Brandy and Monica‘s single "The Boy Is Mine" (1998).[2] Ciara's rapping technique was compared to that on Kandi‘s "Don’t Think I’m Not". Ciara's vocals contains "writhes" that "wrap around the song’s backing rhythm". Her voice was praised and compared to that of the late American singer Aaliyah.[2]

"Super Turnt Up" is a fast-tempo R&B song that lasts for four minutes and twenty eight seconds. Lyrically, it speaks about how "her man gets her in the mood". The song contains seductive "cooing". The first verse in which Ciara sings introduces the concept of the song:

"I can't lie
I'm super turnt up
Boy your love got me super turnt up."[3]

Ciara's rapping later in the song was noted as sounding similar to that of rapper Nicki Minaj. The rap verse contains lyrics such as:

"Top notch
Got me so high
Them other broads can't even see me."[3]

Critical reception[edit]

In a review of the album, Idolator described "Super Turnt Up" as "The beating heart of the record" and one of her "best songs ever". Idolator called the song "smooth but furious, layered and dynamic, with Ciara rapping against herself against trap-and-blues production".[4]

Music video[edit]

"I did video snippets of many of the songs on the album for my fans so they can have the best experience of my music possible. I wanted my fans to see the music for the first time while they are also hearing it.

—Ciara speaking on the concept for releasing multiple videos."[5]

Initially, Ciara planned to release five video snippets for five of the album's songs. However, "Super Turnt Up" was released as the sixth and final short promotional video on July 12, 2013.[6] It was directed by Hannah Lux Davis and shows Ciara flaunting her fashion style in the black-and-white video clip, wearing a "XIV Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn" coat and thigh-high boots.[6]

Live performances[edit]

The song was performed for the first time on BET 106 & Park in July 2013.[6]
