Superlative Adventure Club
The Superlative Adventure Club (S.A.C.) is a Hamburg-based Europe-wide organizer of adventure-charity rallies for classic and vintage cars.
History
S.A.C. was founded in 2010 by Daniel and Sebastian Kaerger, two brothers from Hamburg. Because of their passion for adventures and getting to know foreign cultures, they decided to organize "adventure rallies for everyone".[1][2]
Before long, the first rallies, the Baltic Sea Circle and Three Wheels on India, had their successful debuts in 2011.[2] In the following years, more rallies were added to that list: The European 5000, Knights of the Island, the Balkan-Express, The Deutschland Rally and the Atlantic Pacific Ocean Drive.
The adventure rallies’ main objective is the interaction with foreign countries and their respective cultures and people.[3] S.A.C. also is a big supporter of charity organizations, having linked its adventures to charity ever since its foundation.[4][5] In the past 10 years, S.A.C. has collected €3,500,000 for charity.[6] Along with the number of rallies, the number of teams taking part continuously rose. In 2019, for example, almost 300 teams started from Hamburg’s fishmarket to North Cape. [7]
The concept
The rallies are driven by classic and vintage cars. More detailed information on the cars allowed can be found in the vehicle regulations.[8][9][4] During the rallies, there’s no GPS allowed, forcing the teams to use maps and compasses to navigate their way to the finish line.[10] Die Routen verlaufen abseits der Autobahnen.[4][11] In contrast to standard rallies, S.A.C. adventure rallies are not about speed but about completing the roadbook challenges. The roadbook is handed to every team at the start of the rally.[2][12][13][14] These roadbook challenges are designed to guide the teams to special places and to make them interact with the locals.[2][3][15]
Charity
Depending on the rally, every team must collect €250 to €750 for a good cause of their choice.[16] The money is sent directly to charity organizations using donation platforms. [17] Der S.A.C. arbeitet eng mit Charitypartnern aus sozialen und humanitären Feldern und dem Umweltschutz zusammen.[18][19] Every team can choose whether they want to donate to one of SAC’s official charity partners or another charity organization they want to support.[11][20][21][22]
