Suraj MN Hegde
Suraj Hegde (born on 10th June 1971) is an Indian politician and leader from Karnataka. As a member of the Indian National Congress, he is currently the spokesperson for the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee,[1] and has served as an AICC Secretary in-charge of the Indian Youth Congress. [2]
Family
Suraj Hegde is the son of late Dr M. D. Nataraj (ex MLC) and D Nagarathna and is the grandson of D Devaraj Urs, former Chief Minister of Karnataka, and Chikkamanni Devraj Urs.[2] His paternal grandparents are M Doddaiah and Puttathayamma. He is married to Shilpa Suraj and they have two sons, Samrudh S Hegde and Vishruth S Hegde.
Political Career
Suraj Hegde, who studied engineering, entered Congress through the NSUI in 1992. He served as the president of the Students’ Union of BMS College of Engineering. He went on to join the Youth Congress and was appointed as General Secretary for the State Youth Congress in 2002.[2] [3]
In 2004, Suraj began working with Rahul Gandhi and assisted him in democratizing the Indian Youth Congress.[2] He was inducted into an election commission-like body set up by Rahul Gandhi to hold internal elections for the posts in the IYC. Hegde was also a part of the body set up by the Youth Congress to oversee polls across eight states. [3]
In 2013, Suraj was appointed as an AICC Secretary attached to Rahul Gandhi in-charge of frontal organizations.[2] He stepped down from the post in 2018, and his work was appreciated.[4]
He also served the Congress party as a Co-ordinator for the Shakti Program in Karnataka. Under his tenure, Karnataka Congress registered the highest number of members on the Shakti app.[5]
In 2019, he was a strong contender to represent the Congress for the Mysore Lok Sabha Elections.[6] [7]
Suraj Hegde is currently a spokesperson for the Karnataka Congress.[1]
