Surinder Pal Singh Oberoi (S P Singh).[1] (born 1956) is the Managing Chairman of Apex Group Of Companies, Managing Trustee of Sarbat Da Bhala Chritable Trust[2], [3] and president of Asian Gatka Federation[4].

Early Life[edit]
S P Singh was born to a family of social workers in Punjab, India. He did his schooling from Punjab, then moved to Himachal Pradesh in search of a job.
Career[edit]
S P Singh started his career as a diesel mechanic in 1975, in Himachal Pradesh. Four years later he moved to Dubai. In 1981 he returned to India to start Pritam Singh & Sons, a company dealing in construction projects. He shifted back to Dubai in 1993 to start Apex Emirates General Trading L.L.C and Apex International Construction[5] in 1996, that did the dewatering job for Burj Khalifa. He further founded Dubai Grand Hotel in1998 and Oberoi Properties and Investments LLC in 2005[6].
In 2019, Surinder Pal Singh Oberoi became the first Punjabi to receive 10-year Gold Card by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners’ Affairs (GDRFA), Dubai[7]
Philanthropy[edit]
Surinder Pal Singh Oberoi established Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust[8] in 2011 to carryout the Philanthropic[9] activities of the group companies. The trust is involved in different humanitarian[10] projects with a focus on healthcare, education and legal assistance[11][12].
Education[edit]
Through Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust, Oberoi sponsors[13] children from schools and universities[14][15] , supports innovative products developed by students[16] and provides infrastructural, developmental and monetary support to educational institutions. He also runs a few institutions for poor himself.
Legal Assistance[edit]
His trust fights legal battles[17] and pays blood money[18][19] for people lodged in the jails of Dubai[20][21]. It has secured the release of 89 prisoners[22] till now, most of whom were on death row. The trust also assists in finishing the formalities of bringing dead bodies from Dubai. It has brought 105 dead bodies back[23] to India and fights legal battles for Indian women stuck in Gulf region[24][25][26]
Controversies[edit]
In March 2012, Indian authorities began a probe[27] into allegations that he was avoiding taxes and violating India's foreign exchange rules.
