"Surrender" is a song by the American rock band Angels & Airwaves. It was the second single from their fourth album, Love: Part Two (2011), released on the band's record label, To The Stars Records. The song was originally released on October 21, 2011, but impacted radio on January 31, 2012.[1] It peaked at number 35 on Billboard's Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart and number 48 on the Hot Rock Songs chart in 2012.
Videos[edit]
The first music video for "Surrender" premiered on MTVU on May 25, 2012. While the original recording of the song is done with Atom Willard on drums, the video features Ilan Rubin on drums, as Willard left the band prior to the production of the video.[2] The video depicts the band playing the song inside an abandoned building while a group of young people dance to the song in city streets. At the same time, a group of rioters engage in a fight with riot police, and show the palms of their hands to the camera, which have different words drawn on them with marker that revolve around themes of rebellion.
A second music video was released on January 8, 2013 for the song's remix that was done for the band's 2012 EP, Stomping the Phantom Break Pedal. The new video depicts Angels & Airwaves frontman, Tom DeLonge, in what appears to be some kind of military base singing the song in front of a camera, while clips of the other band members in the previous video play in the corner of the screen.
