Surveillance Technology Oversight Project
The Surveillance Technology Oversight Project (S.T.O.P.) is hosted by the Urban Justice Center after being chosen by the UJC for its 2019–2020 Social Justice Accelerator.[1] S.T.O.P. was founded by Albert Fox Cahn, who also serves as executive director.[2]
S.T.O.P. works at the intersections of privacy, technology, and internet law, and describes their mission as "highlighting the discriminatory impact of surveillance on Muslim Americans, immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, and communities of color, particularly the unique trauma of anti-Black policing."[3] S.T.O.P.'s programming includes legislation, litigation, education and advocacy.[4]
S.T.O.P. passed its signature legislation, the Public Oversight of Surveillance Technology (POST) Act, in 2020.[5]
S.T.O.P. is part of the Electronic Frontier Alliance.[6]
