Susan Stone
Susan Stone is a Title IX attorney and Education Lawyer based in Cleveland, Ohio.[1]
She is currently a partner at the law firm Kohrman Jackson & Krantz (KJK), where she is the co-chair of the Student & Athlete Defense practice group, which helps clients involved in academia through Title IX investigations, campus misconduct allegations, special education matters, as well as accusations of academic dishonesty or scientific research fraud.[2]
Prior to working at Kohrman Jackson & Krantz, Stone was a Principal at McCarthy Lebit, where she led the firm’s education practice.
Stone joined McCarthy Lebit in 2011, and was promoted to Principal there in 2017.[3] [4]
Susan Stone grew up in Cleveland, Ohio (Jewish News). She was active in the debate club in her high school, and her experience there played a major role in her decision to become an attorney.[5]. Stone received her undergraduate degree from Miami University in 1988 and went on to receive her JD from Case Western Reserve University in 1991. [6]
Susan Stone has a background in crisis communication and has is helped to found co-founded the Reputation Management practice group at KJK, which combines legal remedies with PR strategies for clients whose personal or professional reputations are in jeopardy.[7]
Regionally, Susan Stone is considered one of the top education attorneys, having been named the 2022 Lawyer of the Year in the Education category by Best Lawyers®, She and her partner Kristina Supler have committed themselves to helping ensure students with disabilities have access to a free appropriate public education (FAPE). Stone and Supler also represent college students with disabilities to ensure that they receive their appropriate accommodations from their schools.[8] In addition, Susan Stone has represented many students involved in parallel criminal prosecutions that may occur alongside student misconduct allegations.[9]
In 2021, Susan Stone earned a Positive Discipline Educator certification to better help parents discuss difficult topics with their children in a constructive manner.[10]
