Swinside is a hamlet seven miles southwest of Jedburgh, in Roxburghshire in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland.
Once a collection of farms on the Duke of Roxburgh Estates, it is now a primarily residential area.
Swinside lies in the river Oxnam valley within the County Councils’ Oxnam Water area.
The area is mostly dedicated to sheep and cattle farming and forestry.
As of 2019 there were 18 dwellings with 29 full-time occupants across the three sub areas known collectively as Swinside, Swinside Townfoot, Swinside Hall and Swinside Townhead.
Dating back to at least 1654, the area was an integrated farming and food production area with over 65 personnel involved in the area in the 1881 census.
Two of the farming sites, Swinside Hall and Swinside Townhead evolved into and were re-developed as residential sites with a number of buildings demolished and others converted into popular ‘steadings’ i.e. barn-type conversions. Furthermore, land originally owned by the Duke of Roxburgh Estate was sold in small plots for new builds.
