  • **V. K. Bafna** – Founder.
Paresh Haribhakti

Late Shri Virendra K. Bafna was far more than just the founder of TCR Engineering Services; he was a true pioneer, a visionary, and the foundational guiding force in the fields of materials science, asset integrity, and non-destructive testing.

In 1973, he established TCR Engineering Services and led the organisation with an unwavering commitment to excellence for four decades, transforming it into a reference point for independent materials testing in India. Driven by an indomitable entrepreneurial spirit and a profound passion for innovation, he successfully built a globally recognised institution whose signature clients could trust without qualification. He was, and remains, the true heart and soul of the company.

Over more than 35 years of technical and managerial work he did pioneering work in X-ray fluorescence based Positive Material Identification, setting the Indian benchmark for the method, and contributed to corrosion studies, chemical analysis, mechanical testing and failure investigation. That work is the foundation the group still runs on.

He grew TCR Engineering across India and created TCR Arabia, which carries the group's delivery in the Middle East.

He was an active member of ASTM International, ASM International, NACE, now AMPP, the Indian Institute of Metals, and the Non-Destructive Testing Society of India. The Indian Space Research Organisation gave TCR a written appreciation for its part in Project ASLV, the Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle.

He died in 2013. The principles he set are the ones the company still operates on: independence, technical rigour, and no dilution of the signature on a report.
