TENSTAR is a multi-game esports organization founded in 2020 and based in the United Kingdom. The organization has players from across Europe, in its headline game Valorant. Shortly after entering Valorant, the organization announced it had acquired the Rainbow Six Siege team previously known as Flight Esports.
The team was founded in partnership by Tom Roderick, Benjamin Drew and Sarah Sanders. Tom is also CEO of the organization’s main partner Adamo Gaming, a video blogging website which covers all the latest news and reviews in the gaming space. The company additionally is focused on building an inclusive gaming community with competitive and casual events hosted regularly in an array of games.
History
Entering Valorant
On May 24th 2021.[1], TENSTAR picked up their first Valorant roster formerly known as Tarren Mill. The team consisted of four UK based players Jack Emmott, Calum Knight, Russel Mendes and Tramaine Stanley[2] and Finnish player Niko Polvinen, together with their coach Peter Bradford. The team competed in ESL's Valorant UK & Ireland Skirmish and took home the winning title against Area Esports[3].
On July 8th 2021[4], TENSTAR announced its first female roster for Valorant. The team would take on the name TENSTAR Nova, to not be confused with the main team. The team was comprised of Soyeon, Loupiote, Kira, Noemie and Rosaee. However, after failing to bring home a victory in the Huntress Trials, they departed from the organisation on August 6th 2021. Two days later a refreshed roster was announced[5] for Nova which included veteran esports talent. The updated team included Asma Boughida, Mathilde Beltoise, Lucy Tran, Nouhara Marcos, Clara Rossi and their coach Alexis Tannaeu.
Entering Rainbow Six Siege
On June 26th 2021[6], TENSTAR announced it had signed an existing Rainbow Six Siege roster formerly known as Flight Esports, who had previously reached Division 1 of the UK & Ireland Nations after finishing third-place. The roster consisted of 5 players from across Europe Jake Fortunato, Callum Aitchison, Bruno Matan, James Lee and Adam Williamson. The team entered the third season of the UK & Ireland Nationals, however they took their final defeat after 6 matches and left the tournament[7]. On August 10th 2021 Bruno and Adam parted ways with the team[8]
Launching TAP³ Programme
On July 1st 2021, the organization announced their TAP³ programme, one of the first esports orientated player pathways in the UK. At launch, its main goal was to scout, support and develop aspiring esports professionals across an array of titles. In August of the same year, TENSTAR hosted their own Valorant Cup[9] where 10 people would be selected to join the programme. The organization are currently running a Fortnite tournament[10], where one player will be offered a 12 month professional contract.
TENSTAR have stated that their next goal for the programme is to have seven regional centres around the UK[11], which will help to scout promising individuals from all backgrounds who have a strong interest in esports.
Kickstart Scheme
Staff at TENSTAR are hired through the UK government kickstart scheme[12]. The scheme was created to offer unemployed 18-24 year olds a chance to gain industry experience in their chosen sector. In return companies are given £1,500 per person who joins them through the scheme, and the employee wages are covered by the government throughout their six month placement. To date TENSTAR has had more than 150 people join their company through the kickstart programme.
Crimes
In 2012, TENSTAR's founder Tom Roderick was jailed for a mobile phone insurance scam[13], stealing £187,000 from unsuspecting victims. Tom together with his brothers were jailed for a total of seven years.
