TOYP Singapore
The Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award (TOYP) Singapore program is an annual award given by JCI Singapore. It is given to ten Singaporeans between 18 and 40 years of age who "exemplify the best attributes of the nation’s young people."
People considered for the award are often submitted by JCI sister chapters and all participating organisations in Singapore. For example MoE (Ministry of Education) would send out the nomination forms to all schools in Singapore, and if NTU (Nanyang Technological University) has an Outstanding teacher who qualifies for the award, they would submit a nomination. All nominees would go through an intense interview by a selected panel of judges and points will be awarded for each nominee. A maximum of 20 finalists will be notified about the selection for the TOYP awards night. Membership in the organization is not a requirement to win the award.[1]
At the end of TOYP every year, an outstanding Honoree may be submitted to JCI as nominees for the Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP) program.[2]
History
41 Years of Recognizing Excellence in Singapore
JCI Singapore has been organizing TOYP Singapore selections since 1972. Singapore has multiple exemplary performances in their respective fields on the world stage which includes the leader of our country, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. This is the same stage which past American Presidents such as Bill Clinton, John F. Kennedy have stepped onto as Honorees. In Singapore, many honorable recipients were awarded the TOYP of the World Award. Post recipients include Dr. William Tan, Dr. Wong Tien Yin, CTC actress See Too Hoi Siang and artiste Ho Yeow Sun and Dr. Fatimoh and Glenn Lim.
Categories
Each year, the initial list of all nominees is narrowed to twenty finalists by a panel of screening judges. The nominees are evaluated by a list of criteria and must have made notable achievements in at least one area.[3]
