TV Gazeta Vitória (channel 4) is a television station in Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brazil, affiliated with TV Globo, flagship network of Rede Gazeta and owned by Rede Gazeta de Comunicações. TV Gazeta Vitória's studios are located on Monte Belo district and its transmitter is located on Morro da Fonte Grande.

History[edit]

In 1966, a group of politicians and businessmen created TV Clube Intermunicipal, the embryo of TV Gazeta. Based on negotiations, disputes and conversations that date back to the early 1970s, the Monteiro Lindenberg family obtained the Globo retransmission contract and the concession of channel 4 VHF, inaugurating the station on September 11, 1976. In its beginnings , experienced professionals in the television field were hired from other states, in addition to training journalists and technicians with the TV Globo Rio de Janeiro team, considering that the Social Communication course at the Federal University of Espírito Santo, with qualifications in journalism and advertising, was created only in 1975.[1]

On April 19, 2010, TV Gazeta debuted new programming, with the implementation of new scenarios for its news programs. The Estação Esporte program gained a new vignette and setting, as did ES Comunidade, which was once again called Gazeta Comunidade (the name used in the 1990s). And on April 24, it started showing Em Movimento in high definition.

In 2013, TV Gazeta was one of Rede Globo's affiliates to test changes to its afternoon programming, which would later be used on all of the network's stations. Unlike the other squares, the Sessão da Tarde started at 1:50 pm, followed by Vale a Pena Ver de Novo at 3:45 pm, and finally, the Vídeo Show at 5:10 pm. A few days later, TV Gazeta changed the programming order again and maintained the Vídeo Show at 1:50 pm, only inverting Vale a Pena Ver de Novo and Sessão da Tarde.

In 2015, the programs Estação Esporte and Gazeta Comunidade were extinguished, giving way to Leve a Vida. Em Movimento changed its time slot and had its duration reduced by 20 minutes, airing after the Saturday edition of ESTV 1ª Edição. In November, the broadcaster announced the departure of Ted Conti, after 25 years presenting ESTV 2ª Edição. The presenter motivated his departure, explaining that he would dedicate himself to personal projects abroad and pursue a political career years later. The newscast started to be presented by Daniela Abreu.

In December, hit by the financial crisis due to low revenue, TV Gazeta canceled the program Leve a Vida, being replaced by national attractions from Globo shown during the program's time. With the end of Leve a Vida and the reduction in time for Em Movimento, there were a series of layoffs, including professionals who had been with the broadcaster for over 25 years, such as Sandra Freitas.

On October 20, 2018, the broadcaster made changes to the Saturday schedule. Em Movimento changed its schedule and started to air after Jornal Hoje, and also debuted a new weekly variety program called AGTV, hosted by Flávia Mendonça. As a result, ESTV 1ª Edição had its duration extended to Saturdays from the 27th of the same month.

On December 4, 2020, presenter Tatiane Braga announced her departure from the television news program Bom Dia Espírito Santo, to dedicate herself to personal projects and her family. Bom Dia Espírito Santo started to be presented by Fabíola de Paula.[2]

Transition to digital signal[edit]

The station turned off its analog signal, over VHF channel 4, on October 25, 2017, as part of the federally mandated transition from analog to digital television.[3] The station's digital signal remains on its pre-transition UHF channel 22, using PSIP to display TV Gazeta Vitória's virtual channel as 4 on digital television receivers.
