Name Origin[edit]
The name TWEYES is a combination of the words 'twice' and 'eyes', pronounced the same way as "twice". The name originates from one of Roby's early childhood memories when he met Martina as a small child at a monument in a small town by the countryside of Croatia. The premise of the thoughts he later on had about this memory created the idea for the name. It seemed to him as if meeting Martina later in life was a second chance, for the first one was too early and they've never seen each other up until their teens with the exception of them meeting in the hospital when Roby was bitten by an aggressive dog at the age of 12, where they also didn't remember each others names. According to him after already meeting twice eye to eye, the third time was the cherry on top.
The Sedaka Cover[edit]
The cover of Neil Sedaka's song Laughter in the Rain was recorded by TWEYES in 2021. Although it was never posted on YouTube before 2023. An unmastered mix version of it can be found on Roby's Instagram. The song has a long history with the cover artists. One rainy day in 2018. Martina and Roby, being that they lived apart and went to high schools in different parts of the country, went on a trip to the capital city of Croatia, Zagreb, each on their own by bus, to meet up. The day was gloomy and cold. They had only a few hours to interact, talk about stuff, and be together for a while. A huge chunk of that time was spent under a blue umbrella. Roby was listening to Neil Sedaka's song on the bus, and it occurred to him that Martina must've never heard the tune. He told her to take a listen as they were walking. Standing near a crossroads, each of them with one earpiece, listening to the song, hugging and slowly moving to it. That's one of the main reasons this song stuck with Roby so much that he wanted to make a cover of it. A few years later, in 2021, he finally did. As Roby states in his YouTube description, they sang their hearts out that day. It was fun, he writes. He played the parts mostly from memory and added their own little acoustic spin to it.
