T Draconis

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

T Draconis (abbreviated T Dra) is a carbon star located at the constellation Draco. It is classified as a Mira-type pulsating variable star. Its pretty notable for being a carbon star in his late stage.

T Draconis was included in the 1895 publication stars with remarkable spectra, reflecting the early recognition of its unusual spectrum

The star has been studied through visual observations, photometry, and spectroscopy. its carbon star spectrum and strong visibility have made it a subject of astronomical observation.

Characteristics

  • constellation: Draco
  • Right Ascension: 17H 56M 23.3288s
  • Apparent magnitude: approximately 7.2-13.5
  • spectral type: C6, 2e
  • Variability type: Mira variable
  • period: estimated to be 422 days
  • Distance: 3,190 light years

The stars carbon rich atmosphere produces a spectrum dominated by carbon bearing molecular features. Its red appearance is associated with its cool, carbon rich atmosphere

Variability

T Draconis is a Mira variable star pulsations in the stars outer layers. As the star expands and contracts its temperature and and luminosity change, producing the large variation in apparent brightness characteristics of Mira variables.

Location and identification

It has the following identifiers - T dra - Gaia DR2 source corresponding to the star - 2MASS catalogue identification - IRAS catalogue identification
