Taimur Malik

Taimur Malik is an international lawyer, political and legal commentator and the promoter of a number of social impact initiatives in Pakistan and elsewhere.

He is known as the Founder of Courting the Law initiative, which includes Pakistan’s first legal and news analysis portal and National Law Scholars programme [1], and also for his contemporary Urdu poetry which has a large following on social media [2]. He is also the Founder of Focus on Pakistan initiative that aims to highlight the positive image of Pakistan [3]. He is a Member of the Overseas Pakistanis Advisory Council of the Overseas Pakistani Foundation of the Government of Pakistan, which represents the interests of more than 8 million Overseas Pakistanis [4] [5].

He is a frequent op-ed contributor and is widely quoted for his analysis of international law matters related to Pakistan, such as in relation to the Kulbhushan Jadhav case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) [6] [7] and the country’s potential grey-listing by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) [8]. He was active in the movement for the restoration of the judiciary in Pakistan during 2007-8 [9] and has more recently been the proponent of a fixed-term for the post of Chief Justice of Pakistan [10].

He was called to the Bar of England and Wales from the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 2006 [11] and has studied at Oxford University as well [12]. He is also an alumnus of the prestigious Georgetown Leadership Seminar [13]. He is ranked as a leading corporate lawyer by Legal 500 [14] and by Chambers & Partners [15] and has been recognized by the Times of Oman as a top Pakistani business leader in the country [16].

He was Executive Director of Pakistan’s leading international law think tank, Research Society of International Law (RSIL) [17] and remained as the regional Head of Legal for Middle East and West Asia for one of the world’s largest mining groups, Vale [18].
