Taivalu is a documentary produced by Lungnan Isak Fangas and directed and filmed by Huang Hsin-yao. It was awarded the Best Documentary and the Million Prize at the 2011 Taipei Film Festival.
The film documents the Pacific island nation, Tuvalu, which the United Nations has declared will be the first country to disappear in the near future due to global warming. Despite its small land area and population, Tuvalu has a unique history and future compared to other nations. The film contrasts Tuvalu with Taiwan, exploring the impact of global environmental changes and rising sea levels on these two locations.[1]
"The original plan was to film the sinking island, but now it has become the island of transformation," said Huang.[2] In traditional Chinese, '沈' and '沉' are the same character. From '沉沒' to '沈沒' needs just a slight transform. It represents a change in perspective and thinking, which occupies an extremely important position in this documentary.[3]
