Taiwan Airlines (Chinese 台湾航空公司) was a airline based in Taiwan that was founded in 1966 and merged into Uni Air in 1998.

History[edit]

Taiwan Airways formerly known as Taiwan Airlines, was established in August 1966. It was originally used for aerial photography, pesticide spraying and passenger and cargo charter flights, and then turned into a full-time airline. Acquired by EVA Group in 1998, merged with other airlines into Uni Air.

Incidents and accidents[edit]

  • On August 13, 1978, a Taiwan Airlines Cessna U206A Super Skywagon numbered B-11102, from Taitung Airport to Lanyu Airport, crashed on a nearby beach because the captain failed to land at the airport in strong winds , killing one of the four passengers on board.
  • On June 13, 1981, a Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander aircraft numbered B-11108 of Taiwan Airlines was on the way from Hualien Airport to Taipei Airport, suspected to be hit by a strong typhoon Ike. It crashed in a forest about 12 kilometers northwest of Hualien Airport, and all two people on board, including the captain, were killed.
  • On September 28, 1983, a Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander aircraft numbered B-11109 of Taiwan Airlines crashed into the sea on the way from Taitung Airport to Lanyu Airport, with 10 people on board including the captain All of them were killed.
  • On January 19, 1988, a Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander aircraft numbered B-11125 of Taiwan Airlines crashed into the sea due to the captain's misoperation on the way from Taitung Airport to Ludao Airport. All 10 people on board, including the pilot and flight attendant, were killed.
  • On April 10, 1992, a Taiwan Airlines Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander aircraft numbered B-11116 crashed into the sea due to engine failure due to mechanical failure on the way from Taitung Airport to Lanyu Airport. All seven people on board, including the pilot and flight attendant, were killed.
