Takdir Ilahi, also written as Takdir Illahi is a 1950 Malaysian drama film directed by L. Krishnan and produced by Run Run Shaw. It starred Neng Yatimah, P. Ramlee, Daeng Harris, Mohd Yusuf, Siti Tanjung Perak, and Saadiah.

Plot[edit]

The second wife of a king become jealous to her stepdaughter, Fatimah, due to her husband that loves the girl more than her. She conspires to doped Fatimah and taken her into the jungle where she hired an assassin to kill her. However, the assassin takes pity on her. P. Ramlee is the warrior who rescues her and despite her terrible injuries, he falls in love with her. He then leading a troops in a victorious battle against the neighbor state invading army and wins her father’s approval. They married and later had twins. Fatimah, who has never ceased to pray, suddenly finds the will of god has restored her arms.

Takdir Ilahi was directed and written by L. Krishnan for the story, and was produced by Run Run Shaw for Malay Film Productions and Shaw Brothers Studio.[1] The script was written by A. R. Tompel and the music verse was composed by Osman Ahmad.[1] It starred Neng Yatimah, P. Ramlee, Daeng Harris, A. R. Tompel, Daeng Idris, Mohd. Yusuf, Siti Tanjong Perak, and Sa’adiah in a leading role.[1] It featured Fatimah, Salmah, and Siti Zainab in a supporting role.[1][2]

The film was shot at Alkaff Upper Serangon Mosque in Singapore.[1] It takes the background of the Malay community in ancient times and uses traditional Malay patterned costumes.[3]

Release and reception[edit]

Takdir Ilahi was released in September 1950 in Singapore.[1] It was considered as one of the best P. Ramlee films which sealed his reputation and set him to fame.[4]
