Talent Pool

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

A Talent Pool is a database or website consisting of profiles of applicants, employees, freelancers or other external contacts. This is a human resource management instrument that is primarily used in the context of employee recruitment, active sourcing and personnel training and development. A basic distinction can be made between open and company-internal talent pools. In the age of constantly increasing numbers of freelancers, in-house talent pools are becoming increasingly important.

Internal Talent Pools

Internal Talent Pools are databases within a company containing all interesting employees and applicants. If companies have an open position to fill, they can access the talent pool and search for suitable applicants and employees by means of a profile comparison. The talents that the company identifies or acquaints with over time (through university marketing, workshops, assessment centres, internships, social media campaigns, etc.) will be included in the talent pool after a selection process. The development of a talent pool must be as systematic as possible in order to have a good overview of the talents. Talent pools are subdivided into different applicant groups so that the administrative effort is reduced and the applicants can be addressed to specific target groups. Active sourcing offers a further approach to build up a talent pool.

You can also use a talent pool to ensure that rejected applicants do not lose out altogether, particularly if an applicant's specialist knowledge could become interesting for the company in the future. For example, an experiment in a study.[1] shows that applicants who, in addition to a rejection, receive the announcement that they will be included in a talent pool and that they will be directly considered for a suitable vacancy in the future (so-called "ice-writing"), react more positively to this rejection and are more favourably disposed towards the company than in the case of a standard rejection.

Talent Pools are also becoming increasingly important in the management of external resources. Although vendor management systems administer the application process between personnel service providers and companies, there is usually no direct contact with external candidates. Internal Talent Pools give companies the opportunity to stay in direct contact with the most important external experts – even when there is no joint project [2]

Open Talent Pools

In addition to the Internal Talent Pools of individual companies, there are also talent pools operated by either a company or an association that many different companies can access. Especially in the artistic field there are many talent pools with which the universities concerned want to create a springboard for their students and graduates in the industry, e. g. TP2 Talentpool[3], which unites young talents from the fields of screenwriting, directing and the German federal states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, or twago marketplace[4], where programmers, designers, translators and other remote-workers come together.

Within the scope of regional campaigns and alliances to secure skilled workers, open talent pools for entire industries or regions are sometimes used. The companies in the region recommend each other applicants whom they cannot recruit for capacity reasons, for example. In this way, applicants can be kept in a region. This concept was selected as one of 365 Landmarks in Land of Ideas 2012.
