Taliya Finkel (Hebrew טליה פינקל, born February 5, 1978) is an independent Israeli filmmaker and multi-disciplinary artist. She believes that art is a tool for social change, and her work focuses on raising awareness about social issues.
Early life
Born and raised in Tel Aviv, Finkel earned a B.A in Literature and Cinema from the Open University in Israel. She specialized in acting for cinema at the Ruth Dayches acting school. She is also a graduate of the Alma School for Cultural Studies where she was the recipient of the AMITIM scholarship. She is a three-time winner of the America-Israel Cultural Fund for the Arts, and also studied photography at Bezalel Academy of Art.
Cinema career
Finkel has written and directed seven films that have been broadcast and screened in festivals and on television worldwide. She has won eleven prizes for her work,[citation needed] and her documentary Mohamed and Anna: In Plain Sight about Egyptian doctor Mohammed Helmy, chosen to be part of the educational curriculum in Germany, has been viewed by over 120,000 high schools.[1][not in citation given]
Her film, Over My Dad’s Body,[2] premiered in the ‘Reflecting Images’ category at the International Documentary Festival in Amsterdam.[3]
