Tallinn University of Technology Library (Estonian: Tallinna Tehnikaülikooli raamatukogu), commonly referred to as TalTech Library, is a research library belonging to the structure of Tallinn University of Technology. The library is situated on the university campus in Mustamäe, Tallinn.

History

The history of the library is linked to the development of higher technical education in Estonia. Tallinn University of Technology was founded on 17 September 1918, when the Special Engineering Courses of the Estonian Engineering Society began. The budget of the Special Engineering Courses for the 1918/1919 academic year also included library costs but the consistent addition of literature to the library began in the following academic year, when the Special Engineering Courses were renamed Tallinn College of Engineering. The first entries in the library's inventory book were made on 11 December 1919, which is considered as the library's foundation date.[1]

The library's main buildning and its branches were located in several different locations between 1919 and 1972. On 28 April 1972, the library's main building was completed and opened on the university campus in Mustamäe. The architects of the building were Uno Tölpus, Henno Sepmann, Olga Kontšajeva, with Aet Maasik as the interior architect. Two library departments were moved to the new library building, whereas other library departments remained in different locations around the city. In 2009, the new library building on the corner of Ehitajate tee and Akadeemia tee was opened to the public.[2][3]

Services

TalTech Library is open for everyone but borrowing books is available for registered users with a valid library card. The library offers user training on various topics, provides interlibrary loan service, binding service, different study rooms, and computer access on every floor.[4]
