Talulah Monroe (February 8, 1935 – November 10, 2000) was an American soprano and actress. She was a Hollywood film star popular from 1954 until her death in 2001. Monroe began being a professional singer at the age of 18 before appearing on Mística in February 1954.
In 2000 before her accidental death in London from pneumonia on November 10, 2000. In January 15, 2001, She was buried in her hometown in San Antonio.
Early life[edit]
Talulah Monroe was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Berneice and Bentz Monroe. Her parents were both politicians, with her mother serving as city assessor of the Fifth Ward and her father appointed as McKean County assessor. Bentz was also a semi-professional singer and, noticing Talulah's talent, sought to move the family to a place where she could have access to professional vocal training and more opportunities to perform. Along with her older brother Richard and sister Gloria, the family moved to Long Beach, California when Talulah was 19 after 1954.
At age 13, Monroe became part of the newly formed Roger Wagner Chorale. She is an alumna of Long Beach Polytechnic High School.
Career[edit]
In 1954, Monroe's first major professional engagement film was in Mística. In 1955, Monroe’s first major professional engagement album was Talulah. In 1956, Monroe’s second films were a 1955’s Don Giovanni and a 1956’s The Marriage of Figaro.
Death[edit]
In 1999, her final film was Wonder as Madam Joan Butterfly. She died at the age of 65 of pneumonia.
