Tannit (stylized as TANNIT) is a Moroccan black metal project from Agadir, formed in 2024.[1] It plays a raw, atmospheric form of pagan black metal. Lyrics draw on Amazigh (Berber) history and mythology.[2][3]
History
Tannit was formed in Agadir in 2024 and has released music independently.[1] Early notes for the debut single described the project as a one-man band.[4] Encyclopaedia Metallum lists Magusxx (drums, lyrics) and Teryel (guitar, bass, mix and mastering, lyrics), and also describes the act as a one-man project.[1]
The debut single, “Shadow of the Raven's Call”, was self-released on 3 December 2024. Its notes cited Venom, Mortuary Drape, Mefisto, and the atmosphere of Darkthrone's second album.[4]
The debut EP, Akal d Tmeddit, was self-released on 15 January 2026.[5][3] AFRICA.ROCKS reviewed it on 16 January 2026.[3] OccultBlackMetalZine reviewed it on 7 February 2026 and recommended the track “Abrid n Itran”.[2]
Musical style and themes
Reviewers describe the music as raw atmospheric pagan black metal in a 1990s second-wave style, with tremolo-picked riffs, blast beats, high-pitched screams, melodic leads, and a rough production, moving between slow, mid-paced, and fast sections.[2][3] Encyclopaedia Metallum lists the theme as paganism.[1] OccultBlackMetalZine states that the lyrics cover North African Berber pagan history and mythology.[2]
Song titles on the EP are in Tamazight. AFRICA.ROCKS described “Tislit n Tafukt” as the vocal-led track and “Abrid n Itran” as largely instrumental.[3] “Tagrawla n Imednan” is included on the EP as a demo.[5]
