Tanya Maniktala, 22, is an Indian born actress.[1]. She is known for the famous web series Flames (2018). She is set to take the British TV industry by storm in the BBC's upcoming adaptation of Vikram Seth’s A Suitable Boy, will be directed by Mira Nair. Maniktala, unfamiliar to British audiences, will play university student Lata, opposite Indian screen icon Tabu, and Bollywood star Ishaan Khatter in the anticipated series. The young actress, who said she’s ‘still in a daze’ over her casting[2], is known for playing Ishita in the 2018 TV series Flames[1]
Personal Life
Tanya is born and brought up in New Delhi. She has completed her Graduation in English Literature from Shivaji College, Delhi University. She is proficient in Spanish.
Career
Tanya has interest in acting since her college days. She has acted in theatre and many street plays during a college days in Delhi University. She bagged "Best Actor (female)" award in street theatre fest, "Mukaam-2016" (an annual fest by "Aadhar", the street theatre society of Motilal Nehru College, Delhi).[3].
She started her acting career with "The Timeliners" and later worked as writing intern at "The social Rush". In 2018, she played "Ishita" in popular web series "Flames". In August 2019, the BBC revealed that Tanya Maniktala had been cast in the central role of Lata in the forthcoming BBC One drama series A Suitable Boy.

Flames (2018-2019)
Tanya played a character of "Ishita" in Flames (Season I & II). "Flames #PadhaiAurPyaar" is a web series by The Timeliners (a sister channel of The Viral Fever). It is a teen romance story. This show revolves around the love story of Ritvik Sahore (essaying the role of Rajat) and Tanya (playing Ishita) who meet in their tuition class and love blossoms from there.
Flames, set in a tuition centre in West Delhi, dealt with the uncluttered teenage romance and gave a sense of nostalgia to all the 90s kids[4].

A Suitable Boy (Announced 2019, Probably will release in 2020)
Tanya will play the lead role "Lata" in "A Suitable Boy", which is being directed by famous Mira Nair. It is based on Vikram Seth's classic novel 'A Suitable Boy', which will be adapted into a series and will have Ishaan Khatter and Tabu in leading roles, reports BBC[5].
It is the story of central character, Lata, trying to find a voice in the 1951 India when the country itself was trying to find its identity. Lata is the character of a spirited university student; coming of age in North India in 1951 at the same time as the country is carving out its own identity as an independent nation and is about to go to the polls for its first democratic general election. A Suitable boy will be a 6-episode series will stream on BBC One[6].
Tanya is also looking forward to shoot the project. "I have been in a daze this whole time, and all of this still feels surreal. It is truly exhilarating to be getting to work with Mira Nair and understanding and bringing her vision of 'A Suitable Boy' to life for all of us[7]
"I am still understanding Lata and the complexities of her reality, and I hope I can deliver, but for now I am focusing on enjoying the process and just taking it one day at a time," Tanya said.[7]
