Tara Price is an American filmmaker known for her award-winning short films The Routine (2014),[1] Earworm (2016),[2] and Tea Time (2020).[3] Prior to directing, Price worked for many years as a stage and screen actor. She played the role of Lt. Commander Elisha Parker in the film Mega Shark Versus Kolossus[4], part of the Mega Shark film series. The first short film she wrote and produced was a horror/comedy homage to the screwball comedies of the 1930s and 40s called Another Grace & Johnny Adventure: Zombie Island! (2013).[5] This was followed by her sci-fi short film The Routine (2014). Written and produced by Price, Davie Richards of the Erie Times-News remarked that “it unfolds like a ‘Twilight Zone’ episode" and Ain't It Cool News said, "Price has managed to create something that will stick with you the rest of the day."[6] The film went on to win the Audience Choice award at the Atlanta Underground Film Festival in Georgia, the Sci-Fi Jury Award at MisCon International Short Film Festival in Montana, Outstanding Fiction[7] at the Short Sweet Film Fest in Ohio, amongst others.
Price's directorial debut came shortly after with the short thriller Earworm (2016),[8] starring Ernest Lee Thomas,[9] and declared "a psychological Horror not to be missed!"[10] by Ken Artuz of DecayMag. It screened at over 50 film festivals around the world before being picked up by Amazon Prime. Awards include: Special Jury Mention at Fantosfreak in Spain, Best Suspense Short at Chain Film Festival in New York, and the Abby Normal Award for Innovation[11] at the Portland Horror Film Festival in Oregon. After this was the horror/comedy Tea Time (2020).[12] Featuring WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam[13] comedically spoofing himself, the film won Funniest Horror Comedy[14] at Horrible Imaginings Film Festival in California, Funniest Scary Film[15] at Northern Frights Festival in Ontario, Canada, the Best Comedy Short Jury Award at Nevermore Film Festival in North Carolina, amongst others. It was also included in the Women in Comedy Festival Presented by HBO[16] where it was nominated for Best Comedy.
In 2021 Price announced she would be directing a documentary about Nell Mercer,[17] a suffragist from Virginia[18] who protested in front of the White House with the Silent Sentinels,[19] and spent five days in jail before the 19th Amendment[20] was ratified in 1920 and women finally won the right to vote.
