Tara Elizabeth Savelo (born January 9, 1984) is an American make-up artist. While working as a local makeup artist, she is mostly known for working with Lady Gaga from 2009 to 2014 as a member of the Haus of Gaga..[1]
Early life[edit]
Savelo was born in 1984 in Winthrop, Massachusetts. She moved to Clearwater, Florida, at the age of 3. At age 19 she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting, before getting a degree in beauty and hairstyling at MUD Makeup Designory in Burbank, California [2]
Career[edit]
In 2008, Savelo became the first assistant for Lori Taylor as well as the lead makeup artist for Smashbox Studios and Smashbox cosmetics [3]. Working under Smashbox, Savelo did makeup for various advertisement campaigns including, Smashbox cosmetics, Ms Panama Smashbox holiday campaign, the clothing brand Celebrity Pink, the 2008 lookbook's for fashion designer Jasmin Shokrian, and Prayer Haute, the L'UOMO Vogue CAMP Freddy Backyard BBQ shoot, Photogenics Media Muse video portraits, and the album cover and campaign for musician Oona Garthwaits in 2008. As Lori Taylor's first assistant, Savelo did makeup for various events such as the all 2008 and 2009 runway shows during LA Mercedes Benz fashion week, including the lead artist for the 2008 Green Initiative runway show and 2009 Elmer Ave runway show. In June 2009, Savelo was hired to assist makeup artist Billy Brasfield on the set of a Latisse advertising campaign and in July 2009 assisted him on a photoshoot with American actress, producer, and former fashion model Sharon Stone.
In October of 2009, Savelo assisted Billy on the set of Lady Gaga's music video for Bad Romance.[4] In October of 2009, she once again assisted Billy on doing Lady Gaga's makeup for the American Music Awards; here is where she met Gaga's mother Cynthia Germanotta and did her makeup for the show also. Here is where Savelo was asked to come on tour with Gaga, as her tour and personal makeup artist. On November 24, 2009, Savelo assisted Billy B on Lady Gaga's makeup for The Ellen DeGeneres Show; the next day she had begun her work as the lead makeup artist for The Monster Ball Tour. Savelo's first major network television engagement was the makeup and wardrobe for HGTV "The Outdoor Room Jamie Durie" in 2010.[5] Savelo has helped to shape Lady Gaga's most iconic looks, including the iconic paint-makeup used during the promotion of Lady Gaga's third studio album ARTPOP,[6] and the makeup for Lady Gaga's first movies: Machete Kills[5] and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.[5]
Tara has also completed makeup looks for Jason Biggs, Mya, Jimmy Fallon, Rosanna Arquette, Jeremy Sisto, Zelda Williams, Sharon Stone, Jamie Durie, Madeline Zima, Dana Delaney and Dave Navarro. In November of 2014, Tara left the makeup scene for health reasons. Currently, Tara is working on various unannounced projects [7].
