Early life
Tarinn Adaria Schafer, known professionally as TAS, is an American contemporary visual artist and photographer whose practice includes painting, mixed media, collage, photography, drawing, and three-dimensional work. She began creating art as a child and later developed a multidisciplinary practice influenced by Abstract Expressionism, assemblage, and experimental approaches to materials.
Artistic practice
TAS works across a variety of media, including acrylic painting, mixed media, collage, drawing, photography, and three-dimensional assemblage. Her work frequently combines abstraction with expressive mark-making, layered surfaces, pattern, and color.
Her artistic influences include women associated with abstraction and assemblage, including Louise Nevelson, Helen Frankenthaler, June Leaf, Joan Mitchell, and Alma Thomas.
Memory, emotional experience, identity, transformation, and the psychological associations of color and form recur throughout TAS's work. Her mixed-media work Izanagi (2020), for example, explores implicit memory and the ways in which pattern and color can provoke involuntary associations.

TAS relocated to Europe in 2021, where she has continued developing her artistic practice and experimenting with different materials, techniques, and forms.
