Taxfix is a German fintech company headquartered in Berlin that develops software for preparing and filing tax returns. Founded in 2016 by Mathis Büchi and Lino Teuteberg, it has raised several funding rounds and was valued at more than US$1 billion. Taxfix has expanded internationally through acquisitions and now operates in Germany, the UK and Spain.[2]

History

Taxfix was founded in 2016 as a tax filing service focused on the German market. The company later expanded into several markets and operated for a time in Italy and France, before ceasing operations in both countries.[3][4]

In 2023, Taxfix acquired Steuerbot, a Stuttgart-based tax app that had belonged to Haufe Group. The following year, it acquired the British tax service TaxScouts, expanding its presence in the UK and Spain.[5][6]

Funding

Taxfix has received several venture capital funding rounds from international investors, including a US$65 million Series C led by Index Ventures.[7]

In April 2022, the company raised US$220 million in a Series D funding round led by Teachers’ Venture Growth, part of the OTPP. Following the round, it was valued at more than US$1 billion and became a unicorn.[8]

Products and services

Taxfix offers web and mobile apps for preparing and filing tax returns.

For users in Germany the application focuses on regular employee cases, including employment income, investment income, work-related expenses, special expenses, and joint filing for married couples.[9]

The app does not cover all tax situations. Unsupported cases include certain self-employed or business activities, rental income, international tax cases and agricultural income.[10]

Taxfix also offers an expert-assisted filing service with tax advisers that can help users with their tax return in selected situations.[11]

In the UK, the service focuses on Self Assessment tax returns prepared by accredited accountants, while the Spanish service provides tax filing and advisory services for individuals, the self-employed and companies.[12] [13]
