Taxfyle

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Taxfyle is an online tax preparation company headquartered in Miami, FL. Taxfyle was founded by co-founders Richard Lavina, William Sahatdijan and Michael Mouriz under Tickmark, Inc.

Taxfyle connects individual consumers, small businesses and enterprises with professional Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) or Enrolled Agents (EAs) who complete tax returns and/or provide tax consultations on the app or website.

Founding

After working as a CPA at a Big Four Accounting Firm, a career path infamous for long, demanding hours during tax season and little to no flexibility, co-founder and current CEO Richard Lavina began to think about how accounting professionals can break the traditional mold of modern accounting.

The idea for Taxfyle[1] came to him in an Uber, as he considered the possibility of “uberizing” accounting for consumers and small businesses, providing flexibility for accountants across the country.

The company was officially founded on August 1, 2015 by Lavina and two co-founders, William Sahatdijan (CTO) and Michael Mouriz (COO). The app itself officially launched[2] on January 19, 2016 on the Apple Store in advance of the 2016 tax season.

By February 2017, Taxfyle announced that it raised $2 million during an initial round of seed funding and grew into a network of more than 700 CPAs. The app was the top-ranked tax app[3] on the App Store.

During their Series A funding round, which closed in 2018, Taxfyle raised $4.1 million, led by Miami-based venture capital firm Rokk3r Fuel ExO, adding up to a total of $7.3 million raised in total[4] By 2018, over 40,000 people had filed with the service[5] since its launch.

As of January 2020, Taxfyle employs over 40 full-time employees with a network of 2,000 tax professionals working through their platform to complete tax returns.
