Tech Parks Arizona is a university-affiliated research and technology organization located in Tucson, Arizona, operated by the University of Arizona. History

Tech Parks Arizona was created in 1994 following the purchase of a former International Business Machines (IBM) campus to the University of Arizona. The campus was developed into what is now known as the UA Tech Park, which has become a hub for innovation and research in Southern Arizona. Over the years, Tech Parks Arizona expanded its mission to support a broader range of tech-based companies and startups, strengthening Tucson’s position as a growing technology hub. In 2003, the University of Arizona Center for Innovation (UACI) was established to support startups and growing tech companies. In 2020, Tech Parks Arizona launched a second location, UA Tech Park at The Bridges, located in Tucson’s urban core just minutes from downtown Tucson and the University of Arizona’s main campus.

Facilities

UA Tech Park (Rita Road)

The UA Tech Park is one of the nation’s premier research parks, established at the intersection of innovation and the university to advance business. Located in southeast Tucson, this 1,267-acre park houses established companies, startups, and research labs. This location also includes specialized facilities such Dry and Wet Labs as well as a Solar Zone.

Solar Zone

The Solar Zone at the UA Tech Park is one of the largest multi-technology solar demonstration sites in the United States. Established in partnership with Tucson Electric Power, it spans over 200 acres and serves as a platform for research, testing, and commercialization of solar technologies. The site is designed to generate 25 megawatts of power each day – nearly twice the daily electrical consumption of the Tech Park and enough to power the hoes of more than 4,600 TEP residential customers for a year. The Solar Zone brings together companies, researchers and utility providers to evaluate the performance, efficiency and scalability of various photovoltaic (PV) and concentrating solar power (CSP) systems.

UA Tech Park at The Bridges

Situated near downtown Tucson, this 65-acre park is supports urban innovation and high-tech growth. UA Tech Park at the Bridges includes buildings such as The Refinery, Springhill Suites, Arizona Public Media, and The Mission Integration Lab.

University of Arizona Center for Innovation (UACI)

The University of Arizona Center for Innovation (UACI) is an incubator network supporting science and technology companies at all stages of development through a 28-point roadmap. UACI supports science and tech startups in a range of industries including bioscience, aerospace, optics and software development based in Southern Arizona, the United States and around the globe
