Tectyl is an American brand of anti-rust agent, created by J.M. Cohen circa 1935. The agent was developed during the 1930s in the USA by the company Potomac Chemical Co. to protect military equipment against rust and corrosion.
History
In December 1940 at the National Chemical Exposition in Chicago, Tectyl was shown to the public for the first time. It had then been used by the American Navy to protect and preserve the hull and diesel engines of the salvaged submarine USS Squalus, which sank off New Hampshire during test diving on 23 May 1939. [1]
Tectyl also produces products for industry, aviation, shipping and weapons. In the USA, Tectyl products are manufactured today (2026) by the Daubert Chemical Company in Chicago.
