Tengakhat is a town and administrative sub-division in Dibrugarh district of Assam. It is located in the eastern part of Dibrugarh district and functions as both a revenue circle and a development block under Dibrugarh district administration. [1]
Geography
Tengkhat is geographically located at27°13′N 95°54′E / 27.22°N 95.9°E
.[2]It has an average elevation of about 106 m (348 ft) above sea level. Tengkhat is located about 28 km east of Dibrugarh city and about 17 km west of Duliajan city.
Demographic
As of 2011 census,Tengkhat had a total population of 220,478, of which 112,046 were males or 51.81% of the total population and 108,432 were females or 49.19% of the total population. Children under the age of 6 make up 12.35% of the population.[3]The average literacy rate in Tengkhat is 67.24%. The average literacy rate is 72.94% for males and 61.35% for females, respectively.
Education
Tengakhat is home to several schools and colleges serving students from nearby rural areas. The most notable institution is Tengakhat College, established in 1967, which offers undergraduate courses under Dibrugarh University.[4] Several government and private schools, including Tengakhat Higher Secondary School and various ME and LP schools, operate within the subdivision.
Political
Tengkhat belongs to the 90th Duliajan Assembly constituency and the 14th Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency.[5]
