Tequila Mockingbyrd

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Tequila Mockingbyrd are an all-female rock band formed in Melbourne in 2012 by founding members Estelle Artois (guitar, vocals), Jessica Riley (bass, backing vocals) and Josie O'Toole (drums, backing vocals). The band enjoyed a reasonable level of success in Australia from 2012–2016, gaining a steady following through extensive touring, supporting the likes of Thirsty Merc, Richie Ramone and Twelve Foot Ninja.

2014 saw the release of their debut EP 'T-Byrds Are Go!', recorded at Lighthill Sound Recording in Riddells Creek with producer Shane Rae. In 2015, the band was invited by the Australian armed forces entertainment division to embark on a trip to the Middle East to entertain the allied forces. It was during their trip that the band recorded the video for 'I Smell Rock n Roll'.

In May 2016, the band released their debut album 'Fight and Flight', recorded at Lighthill Studios with producer Ricki Rae. Debut single 'I Smell Rock n Roll' subsequently received A-list airplay on UK rock station Planet Rock radio. Following this initial success in the UK, the band relocated to England in September 2016 where they embarked on a tour with fellow Aussie rockers Massive and Black Aces. The band also made their Hard Rock Hell and Planet Rockstock debuts later that year.

In 2017, the band signed to rock label Off Yer Rocka Recordings and re-released the debut album internationally in March 2017. They completed a tour with Swedish band Bonafide, then returned to Australia in April for shows with The Darkness, Nashville Pussy and Electric Mary. It was announced in May 2017 that Estelle Artois and Jess Riley left the band to focus on other endeavours. They were replaced by Melbourne-based Jacinta Jaye on bass and Louisa Baker on vocals and guitar. The band returned to the UK for a tour in the summer of 2017, playing over 40 dates across 6 countries including Stonefree Festival, Steelhouse and Rock n Blues Custom Show. The band recorded new music in February 2018 and returned to the UK in May 2018 for their first headline tour, as well as appearances at Hard Rock Hell Ibiza and Amplified Festival. In November 2018, the band was awarded Hard Rock Hell 'Angels of Rock' award. The following month it was announced that singer Louisa and the band had parted ways. Scottish rock band The Amorettes announced they had parted ways with drummer Hannah McKay and bassist Heather McKay in February 2019 and soon after, both bands announced that they were joining forces for the duration of 2019 to fulfil each other's gig commitments. Guitarist Laurie Buchanan also joined the mix, meaning both bands became 4-pieces. In September 2019 it was announced that the bands were working on something new and that Jacinta Jaye had chosen to focus on other things and would not be part of the new venture.
