Terroir (company)
Terroir is an Australian architecture firm, founded in 1998 by Richard Blythe, a Professor in Architecture and Head of School of Architecture and Design at RMIT,[1] Gerard Reinmuth, and Scott Balmforth. The firm's Hobart office was founded by Blythe and Balmforth, and the Sydney office by Blythe and Reinmuth.[2] TERROIR has offices in Sydney, Hobart, and Copenhagen.

TERROIR's works include:
- Peppermint Bay, Tasmania (2002), a tourism venture on the D'Entrecasteaux Channel.
- A redevelopment of 86-88 George St, The Rocks, Sydney, the first State heritage building to be awarded a 5-star Green Star rating.
- Commonwealth Place kiosks, which was featured on the cover of the Architectural Review Australia no. 105.[3][4]
- Burnie Makers' Workshop in Burnie, Tasmania, which was featured on the cover of Architectural Review Australia no.114,[5] and in the online journal Australian Design Review.[6]
- Castle Cove House,[7][8] received a 2019 NSW Architecture Awards Residential commendation for Architecture – Houses (New),[9] won the Interior Architecture Architecture Award (in collaboration with Pascale Gomes-McNabb Design),[9][10] won the 2019 Australian Timber Design Awards Excellence in Timber Products - Timber Panels Award,[11] shortlisted for the 2019 The Interior Design Excellence Award (IDEA) in the residential single category,[12] and won a 2019 NSW Excellence In Concrete Residential Buildings Award.[13]
- Koondrook Wharf project,[14] won 2018 Victorian Architecture Awards in Regional Prize Architecture,[15] Urban Design Architecture,[15] and Small Projects Architecture,[15] was shortlisted for the 2018 World Architecture Festival Award in Landscape - Rural Projects,[16] and received a 2019 International Architecture Award in Urban Planning/Landscape Architecture.[17]

In August 2007 DAB Documents, University of Technology Sydney (UTS) published Terroir: Cosmopolitan Ground, edited by Balmforth and Reinmuth.[18]
TERROIR was included in the 2008 and 2012 Venice Biennale,[19] and was selected to be creative directors of the Australian Institute of Architects 2009 annual conference, entitled Parallax, held in Melbourne.[20][needs update]
Terroir's practice is featured in two books published in 2019 by Uro Publications. Terroir: Instruments[21] explores how architecture can connect people with place both physically (through choreography) and psycho-spatially (through wonder). Terroir: Third Spaces[22] focuses on the tension between public and private space.
