Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES) Core is a standardized test used to assess the knowledge and skills of a qualified teacher for teaching students according to Texas Lone Star State Standards. TExES Core refers to five subject tests: English Language Arts and Reading & Science of Teaching Reading, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Fine Arts, Health and Physical Education. Achieving the passing score according to Texas state standards in the TExES Core Subjects EC-6 is one of the prerequisites for becoming an entry-level licensed teacher in Texas.[1] To become a certified teacher in Texas, candidates must go through [1] to get the certification. The Texas Administrative Code requires candidates who take the TExES Core exam to provide a valid university degree that is certified by an accreditation agency recognized by the [2]. All teachers must have a professional or temporary certification.[2]

Because TExES Core is a computer-based tests, registration by making an online appointment with the Texas Educator Certification Examination Program (TECEP). The test date is selected by appointment and is available throughout the year. Computer administered testing (CAT) sites are available within Texas. Test-takers can choose to take all five subject tests at the same time or take separate subject tests. The total cost of taking the test at once is $ 116, and if the applicant takes a subject test separately, the flat fee of each test is $ 58.[3] Also, if applicants fail their first attempt on a particular subject test, they can retake the exam 30 days after the last test date.[4]

History[edit]

According to the Division of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Program Coordination of the Texas Education Agency (TEA), all teachers are required by law to be a "Highly Qualified Teacher".[5] Therefore, this is a condition of eligibility for teachers that is mandatory for all teachers. The Texas Department of Education defines the term "Highly Qualified" teacher as: a) has a full Texas Teacher Certification b) Have at least a bachelor's degree. C) Demonstrate subject matter competency in each of the courses he / she teaches, in a manner determined by the TEA.[6] According to the Texas Education Agency (TEA), TExES Core is a comprehensive test that replaced the Generalist EC-6 (191) test in 2015. This test is prepared in accordance with the laws of the state of Texas.[7]
