Sergei Urban aka TheDadLab is an English YouTuber, internet personality, content creator and an author. He is best known to create simple but inspiring science experiments with his children.[1] He also shares crafts, educational activities and creative art projects. He got his popularity with parents speaking different languages around the world by creating simple videos without any voice instructions that are visual and easy to follow. He creates safe family content that was approved for YouTube Kids.[2]

Videos of his science experiments and his book are also used for educational purposes by teachers and students worldwide, including the Australian government for the State of Victoria.[3][4]

Sergei has appeared on various news channels and T.V. shows including ITV News, GMA Strahan & Sara.[5][6] He took part in a number of panel talks discussing parenting, creativity and educational topics including panels with Jane Goodall and Hank Green. He was invited to be a judge at awards numerous times. [7]

Sergei has collaborated or been sponsored by many brands & agencies in the world including LEGO. TheDadLab is the first long-term LEGO international partner on social media ever. The collaboration started when LEGO hosted an exclusive birthday party for Urban's children.[8] In 2018, Sergei was given an exclusive tour of the official LEGO factory in Billund, Denmark.[9]

History[edit]

In 2015, Urban’s wife inspired him to create an Instagram page and start sharing activities he was doing with children there.[10] He started posting content under the name ‘earlylearningtoys.’ Pretty soon the number of followers started to grow rapidly. Within 12 months of launching his Facebook page, Sergei had over 1 million followers.[11][12][13]

In 2016 he changed his username across all social media platforms to TheDadLab. TheDadLab is now a registered trademark in the USA, UK, and EU.[14][15][16] TheDadLab’s first viral video was an experiment that involved laying a ring of Skittles on a plate in a circle, then pouring water to create a beautiful multi-coloured pinwheel effect. It gained more than 40 million views on his Facebook page. His TheDadLab career started out as a hobby with his kids, but upon sharing it on the internet, he realized this is a career-changing opportunity and began to focus on TheDadLab full-time.[12][17] He holds a Master’s Degree in Economics.[18]
