TheFork

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

TheFork, a subsidiary of online travel booking platform Tripadvisor, is an online restaurant booking platform cofounded in France by Bertrand Jelensperger. Formerly operating under the LaFourchette brand in France, and ElTenedor in Spain, the company offers an online and mobile reservation platform for restaurants.[1]

History

In 2007 TheFork was cofounded by Bertrand Jelensperger in France. In 2014, TheFork was acquired by TripAdvisor, allowing the company to develop in new markets.[2] Since then the company has grown internationally and acquired other restaurant booking companies: Dimmi in Australia,[3] lens in the Netherlands,[4] and Delinski in Germany and Austria.[5] In 2019 Michelin signed an agreement to sell Bookatable to TheFork, allowing the company to consolidate its existing markets and expand in new countries such as the UK, Germany, and Austria.[6] In 2020, the company consolidated its different brands, including LaFourchette in France and Switzerland, Bookatable in the UK, and Delinski in the DACH region, under the name TheFork.[7][8] In 2021, Jelensperger moved into an advisory board leadership role and Almir Amberskovic was appointed CEO[9]. Also in 2021, TheFork launched gift cards and a new payment method the TheFork Pay App, allowing users to pay directly at the table.[10][11]

Services

TheFork allows users to find a restaurant, check their availability, book a table in a few clicks and receive instant confirmation. It features complete information on the type of cuisine, user reviews and images.[12]

From the restaurant side, TheFork provides them with a software solution, TheFork Manager, to optimize reservation management as well as their results and visibility[13].[4] TheFork features a pay-per-use model for restaurants.[10][14]

In 2014, TheFork was operating in France, Spain, and Switzerland[1] but has since expanded its restaurant network and operations to Belgium, Italy, The Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Australia, and the United Kingdom.[15] As of May 2021, TheFork reportedly led the global market for online restaurant reservations with a network of nearly 80,000 restaurants globally, with more than 12,000 in Spain.[16]

Partnerships

In 2019, TheFork launched a strategic partnership with The Michelin Guide that allows users to identify and book restaurants selected by The Michelin Guide.[17]
