The AI Ideal: Aidealism and the Governance of AI is a book by Niklas Lidströmer, published in 2026 by Morgan Kaufmann, an imprint of Elsevier.[1][2] It is a scientific, political and philosophical book on how to use artificial intelligence for the common good, in line with Enlightenment ideals, secularism, and evidence-based science, and to avoid digital serfdom and autocratic rule.[3][4]
The author strives to ensure that AI manifests democracy, ethics, and human rights. Lidströmer describes an AI that strengthens justice and enlightenment. His philosophy is based on European Enlightenment ideals, Scandinavian social models, liberalism, and democracy.[5][6]
Aidealism is a new political ideology described in the book. It seeks pragmatic, ethical, and novel solutions for a brighter and kinder world. The author argues for free education and universal healthcare. Lidströmer also delves into AI-driven economic justice and climate responsibility.[7] In the book, a new global ideal AI or 'AIDEAL' framework is presented.[8][9]
The AI Ideal has been choosen one of 'the five best AI books in 2026' by Five Books.[10]
The book was discussed in The World Report (Raporto Stanieswiata) Poland's largest podcast.[11]
