The Book Man is an independent bookstore in Chilliwack and Abbotsford, British Columbia, with branches in Chilliwack and Abbotsford British Columbia. Their flagship store in Chilliwack is 5,000 square feet, and their Abbotsford branch is 1,600 square feet. It has been referred to as both one of the best bookstores in British Columbia[1] as well as one of the top bookstores in Canada [2]
History
Founded in 1963 by Erna Ford. Husband and wife team David and Mary Short purchased Erna's Book Nook from Ms. Ford when she retired in 1991, and renamed it The Book Man.
David's daughter Amber Price joined him full-time in 1998. In 2011, Price opened The Book Man's second branch in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Their expansion of jobs through technology resulted in being recognized by the Province of British Columbia.[3]
Community involvement
The Book Man houses a Cat Adoption Window that fosters adoptable cats at its Chilliwack location.[4]
Their famous bookstore cat Nietzsche passed away in 2021.[5]
The Book Man released a viral video entitled All About Them Books.[6]
